A big day in Wan world!

Hello my lovelies! Well the 1st March certainly is proving to be a big day in my world. Two brand new collections are launching today.

Gok's Sainsburys Tu and SimplyBe launches

My 3rd, and I really think best, collection for Sainsburys. I have taken on a lot of advice and feedback from all you guys who have been wearing the first two collections and I hope you are going to love this one – there is a fantastic new print and some fabulous pieces that I think every wardrobe needs!

Then of course I have my new collection for SimplyBe called the Wall of Fame. I’ve taken six classic pieces, in 3 brand new colours, and given them that extra Gok love and affection that will boost, smooth, slim or support! What more do you need ladies!

I really hope you enjoy wearing them as much as I have enjoyed designing them!
Love you loads
Your Auntie Gok

After such amazing support for my debut collection I thought it was only right that I get straight back to my sketch pad and put together another collection ready for the festive season! You will find some of the classic cuts and shapes from the first collection mixed with some new prints, colours and party numbers to make you all look and feel fabulous.

As ever I want my girls to experience the same core principles which will run throughout all my collections, and that is about you feeling confident, stylish and positive whatever your budget, size or shape!

My second collection is available in 200 Sainsbury’s stores in sizes 8-22, with pieces starting at just £20!

Enjoy my darlings x

I think cooking is no different from styling. The meals I cook become the outfits and the ingredients are the garments and accessories. I employ the same level of creativity and skill in cooking as I would styling a celeb or model.

First, I have to decide what story I’m telling. Am I feeling 1950’s Paris with neat tailoring and full skirts? If so, I’ll make Chinese Egg Custard Tarts, dressed in perfectly groomed salty pastry cases with soft, daffodil-coloured filling. Or do I want to convey the rebellion of 60’s China with colourful Pak Choi tossed in peanut oil and scattered with red chillis to add danger and warning?

Today, the story I am creating is provincial, so I need a dish that exudes purity and innocence. It cannot feel overdone and too glamorous, so the foundation needs to be basic. Its flavour must run quietly throughout the meal so for this spread, I choose noodles as my model. I need a secret familiarity so ho fan or soba are out of the question; they’re too pretentious with their western fusion attitudes. Dried egg noodles are best: they’re neat, simple and that murky mustard hue will work beautifully swimming in a bowl of clear broth. My model will wear a simple dress of hot soup.

Next, I need to choose the accessories for the dish to wear. I want to demonstrate depth and texture so I will balance three different pieces. First, tofu; silken is best with its milky white colour, diced into equal-sized cubes with a sharp knife to ensure a clean finish. Its presence is subtle and modern, like a detailed flesh-toned thread embroidered onto a coarse stretch of hessian.

Next come thinly sliced ginger root and Julienne-cut spring onions. Each sliver of ginger will bring warmth to the palate, like a finely knitted shrug. Its gentle layering over the dish will add balance and proportion, and the green of the onion will tempt and tantalize. Finally, a splash of sesame oil to finish the dish. Like a necklace, it will provide the last touch, its roundedness adorning the meal with precious intricacy.

There. All done. A glorious, perfectly styled dish. How lucky am I that I can combine my two great loves, fashion and food?

Jean Genie!!!

It’s rumoured, Joan Collins is responsible for us wearing Jeans in the UK. My sources tell me she discovered them in the US, fell in love with their adaptable and easy wearability and decided to bring them home to Blightly. Before we knew it, everyone who was anyone was stretching denim across their derrieres!

It’s hard to imagine a Jeanless world! No bootcuts to slim and elongate, no skinny to dress up with heels and no slouchies to help comfort those dress down days. Some people ‘heart’ New York, some people ‘heart’ cake – Well, I ‘heart’ jeans!

I want to roll around in a field of denim, brush that sensual cotton against my skin and lay by moonlight staring deep into my jeans stitching!

Jeans are my love affair without compromise or expectation. They will never cheat on me (if I look after them), they will never make me pay the bill (if I wash them properly) and just when I need a little more affection, they squeeze my bum and hold me tight.

Gokettes – If you ever find a pair of jeans that treat you right, hold onto them for dear life as a good pair of denims is hard to find!

Banish the baggies

Last night at dinner I was asked, “what is the most common mistake women make with their clothes?”

This is a tricky one to answer since every woman is different but I think the area women struggle most is the basic fit.

We’ve all done it. We pile on the un-tailored, oversized baggy sweatshirts in a bid to disguise what we hate the most, most commonly our tummies and bums. The thing is girls, if you do that it will always make you look bigger! There is nothing wrong with layering up and adding dynamics to outfits with fine knits and soft jersey, but fleeces and sack like jumpers will not only drown your beautiful bodies, it will also suffocate your confidence.

I urge you girls, try to tailor up. It doesn’t matter what dress size you are, a well fitted jacket with a good shoulder or a fabulous pair of quality trousers will ALWAYS make you appear more in proportion!

Banish the bin liner baggies and flaunt that figure fitting fabulousness!!!
